People often ask me what equipment and kitchen gadgets do I use. Which ones I find essentials for a daily use and which ones are nice to have.

I focus on convenience, hence gadgets I choose help me prepare healthy meals faster. Often I look at the energy use as well; I try to be as environmentally friendly as I can. Each of these kitchen gadgets can be replaced with cheaper methods but it will take more time, the results might not be as good, or you will need to replace the equipment on a regular basis. I vote for sustainability, hence I opt for equipment that can last me a life time or at least as close to it as possible.

Blentec

I received my Blentec blender for my birthday 10 years ago; it was love from first sight. It is my number one kitchen gadget that I continue using on a daily basis. It does not matter if I am making oatmeal, soups, pancakes, hummus, pastes, or butters I am never disappointed with the results.

In 10 years the machine itself has been working perfectly, I did not encounter one hick up with it. One thing to keep in mind is that the jars need to be replaced once in a while as the rubber part at the bottom of the jar will wear off. I replaced mine this year - 10 years, not too bad considering my intensive use. For convenience I wash them in a dishwasher on a top rack, which makes the rubber wear off a little bit faster. If you wash them by hand you might be able to get a few extra years...but as I said I am all about convenience!

Jars and which ones to choose

I have 3 different jars; each one plays a slightly different role in my kitchen.

WildSide+ Jar

is the largest jar. I love it when I am blending a soup or larger batch of smoothie. In the past I used to make hummus and ice cream in it too. However, I found it was quite a bit of work as it required occasional stirring. Some times I was getting frustrated and hoped for a Vitamix blender until... the Twister Jar.

Twister Jar

With this jar I felt my prayers have been listened to...it is magic! I can make seed butters, hummus, pastes and even scoop-able ice cream in seconds. I even opt for this jar when making apple sauce as it only takes 5 seconds. The jar was certainly worth the price for me! When I was buying mine there were two sizes on the market; of course I chose the larger one. It was a good decision as the jar is fairly small.

FourSide Jar

It is my everyday jar for smoothies, oatmeal, smaller batches of soup, fruit yoghurts, etc.

Summary of Blentec jars

If I had to opt for just one jar I would probably go with Twister Jar as it is the most versatile. With its blending speed you can make two or even three batches in the comparable time to the other jars.  

Love it: I would rescue my Blentec from a burning house.
